I needed to be on my computer to properly trim before posting:

15 years ago, I lost a colleague to cancer caused by methylene chloride - I am still haunted by what happened to her- which used as a paint stripper outside, and at the telescope mounts inside, of the Detroit Observatory. The fumes were concentrated in the basement, and, as Curator, Sandy Whitesell was everywhere during the restoration, and didn't take precautions. the workers and conservators are still fine, but had worn masks. I was there infrequently, and also am still fine. the danger is real and in this was case fatal. the restored observatory is her legacy.
