Michael,  We have an outdoor wood burning furnace by Central Boiler, Inc;
www.centralboiler.com  It is hot water heat, thermostatically controlled.
If the thermostat doesn't call for heat the boiler shuts up and doesn't
burn wood but the fire doesn't go out either.  It's a really neat rig.

It was installed last fall so we have used in one season, well it's still
going as it has been chilly here and Dad at 85 is  cold most of the time.
Thank goodness there are 2 zones so we don't get fried in our part of the
house.  We have been satisfied with it although it need help from the oil
burner in the coldest part of the winter.  This is a big house with no
insulation to speak of.  If you want more info just holler.  It also heats
our domestic water but that can be switched to electric.  We just switched
it today so if it ever warms up we can let the fire go out.  Ruth
