I'm sure you've all seen that famous historic photo of the Klondikers making
their way up a precipitous set of steps carved out the snow in the Chilkoot
Pass. (See "Small Golden Staircase" on Onelist). A found-art piece
substituting a defunct escalator for the pass might be just the thing. Some
of the period promotional literature about the Gold Rush did paint a rose
coloured picture about how fast, safe and easy it was to get to the
Klondike. I don't think it went quite that far, though.

I have been contacted by real estate group in California
doing some work
on a building which has a 1940s "Motorstair" escalator they
cannot use it
(no longer operable and not up to code), but do not want to
simply throw
it away. I have additional information and some
photographs - if anyone
has any ideas on where this escalator might find a good home
please contact me
                off-list - thanks!
