Contractors are busy but should not be tooooo busy and I think yes,
insurance has skyrocketed but that has not stopped work from being done. Is
it a very small job? Do they have a reasonable "capitalist, imperialist"
budget?

Comrades:

A friend of mine is a retired volunteer at the Communist Party Headquarters
in NYC, 235 West 23rd Street. He says their eight story building is in need
of brick repointing on both sides of the upper four floors (the adjacent
buildings are four stories tall).

(The facade has already been cleaned...)

Bill says when it is raining the rain and the wind is blowing the right
direction the water comes right through the wall into his office, damaging
the plaster on the walls.

The building is undergoing a phased renovation. The first floor has an art
supply company, the second has an auditorium, a couple more floors will be
rented out commercially, and the rest will continue to be used by The Party.

He says that it seems that attempts to hire out the work have come up short
as contractors seem to be very busy in NYC. There was some mention of the
liability insurance issue possibly being a problem for contractors--is that
still an issue or has that eased?

The only hitch Bill could think of is the work must be done by union labor
(that whole "workers of the world unite" thing).

If you can think of anyone who might be qualified have them contact:

Bill Davis

(That's Communist Party USA)

(Christopher may recognize the name--he's the father of Angela who came to
the PHC show a few years ago and then to the dinner party at Chris' digs
afterwards.)

The building is apparently managed by Advance Realty but owned by the
Communist Party. Bill isn't involved with the renovation committee but he'll
be able to put you in touch with the right people.

Thanks,

Comrade Marcham
