That definition would make me a whippersnapper.

Googling sez:

"The distinctive Lombardo sound would always be intimately associated
with New Year's Eve, the countdown and the velvety rendition of the
Robert Burns classic 'Auld Lang Syne.' The Royal Canadians first
appeared in New York's Roosevelt Hotel in October, 1929, and again it
was a live broadcasts from the bandstand over the CBS radio network that
sent their popularity soaring.

"Later it was the Starlight Room of New York's Waldorf-Astoria, then the
world-wide telecasts. They had their critics, those who ridiculed
Lombardo as the 'Schmaltz King,' 'Prince of Wails' and 'King of Corn,'
but Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians survived when all the big bands
of the big-band era sank into oblivion. Two of his staunchest admirers
were Louis Armstrong and Louis Prima."
