The double-incident decision has a direct and immediate impact on the
maintenance of the building stock, historic or otherwise, in NYC as the
re-insurers in Europe, the ones who insure the insurance companies, are
needing to recover & jack rates on all businesses in America, but in
particular those of high risk, which incidentally is perceived as being
in construction in NYC, let alone NY State, and most obviously in any
construction associated with existing structures and for the 9/11
insurance situation there are additional risks for insurers in NY State
that are causing the insurers all to want get out of insuring in the
state, let alone NYC. I'm not sure if it is not sort of like a negative
bubble in which the insurers perceive NYC as high risk above and beyond
the reality. Silverstein gets more money and the small
craftsmen-contractor shmucks in NYC will get sucked dry and put out of
work It is happening now, and it is unemotional to the extent that it
will kill people before it is through. The contractors that will survive
will be the ones that are large in capital and that only because they
have the resourcees to diversify or relocate... or those with the
resources intact working from outside of the area will move in to do
work in NYC, which is also already occuring.
