News in today's NYT:

NY State Supreme Court Justice Robert Lippmann has ruled that there is
nothing in the law that allows him to stop NYU from demolish the Edgar Allen
Poe house in Greenwich Village. The NYT said that the judge in his opinion
urged NYU to preserve the structure, but that he had no legal authority to
stop it.

Historic Districts Council attorney David Goldfarb says that the organization
has not yet made a decision on whether to appeal. Stay tuned.

On another note, have you folks been following the WWII memorial controversy?
Interesting legal twists and turns -- especially around Section 106
consultation requirements. Besides the flawed process that's been going on,
what's wrong with moving all those columns a little to the north, instead of
having them right smack dab at the end of the reflecting pool, messing up
Abe's view of the monument, huh?
