<Have you come up with a practical means of keeping them from doing this?
I've tried laying <a flat metal ruler on them, but this involves a lot of
movement and extra fingers when you <are trying to do a batch of photos.

How about a clear piece of acetate over the back of the photos before you
drop the lid on the scanner?
