well Don, you have just solved one of life's great mysteries for me!!
down in KY where we go caving, the roads are narrow, twisty, and
have crests and dips... in short, they're treacherous, even with
today's bright headlights, as you slowly wind your way thru and over
and around the ridges and valleys into the backcountry, as it were....

but I never connected that and the propensity of the local inhabitants
to paint stuff in their front yards white!   DOHH!!
like you said, even the trees are white all the way around up to about
3 feet...
and the used tires, half-buried upright and painted white.....
the rocks, railroad ties, concrete blocks, you name it, all white....
I just figured folks were bored, or control/neat freaks or something....

but the truth is, Cincinnati is 25 years behind, and 120 miles to the
south, it's still 1935 or so....
which is not all bad!    ;)
