Ken:
This was a two day seminar on the preservation of historic masonry and wood
(Feb. 2002). It was sponsored by the preservation institute at Colorado
State University and the Colorado Historic Society. Engineer Mike Schuler
from Boulder talked about some basic engineering principles and different
testing methods, including non-destructive ones. Norman gave an overview of
theory and science. I conducted the hands on sessions(pointing, patching,
dutchman work, tooling, carving etc.) and talked about mechanical repair
methods and materials. It was in this context that I recieved the cow info.
