You might visit the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (Bauphysik)
in Holzkirchen, just a little south of Munich. They've done good work on
water transport in masonry and concrete materials (capillary, rain-wetting
and drying, effects of surface treatments, etc.) They have a regular
petting zoo of masonry field studies at the site. Contact Dr. Hartwig
Kunzel 80 24/643-45. They take some pride in the application of their
studies to existing buildings. The site is next door to the Voice of
America site, which gave RF interference to their sensors till the wall
came down.
