Im out the door to go dig up dead people for a week;
but back in the day I met Ginsburg twice.
The first time was at Yale during the free Bobby Seal black panther
demonstrations.
Having attended the SDS 68 rally in Chicago I thought I should go get my
head bashed in again up at Yale. (This was an on going therapy I was enganged
in at the time)
On the third night the national guard was called and dropped tear gas in on
the old campus. and Panic broke out ...Ginsburg; and I shall never forget
this ; sat sat-sang
(cross legged) and sang vedic hymns as the rest of the unwashed broke into
the old dorms to escape the gas and liberate the canteen in heroic gestures
against the establishment.
The second time was much more mellow; he was with his father (from Patterson
N'J)who was then 80 and they had a dual read . Ginsburg from Howl His dad
from his own poetry. Soonn after DAD passed away, ten years later so did
Allen

Lets see around the same time I was driving my 48 gmc black beauty hippy van
through the fashionable streets of Montclair and picked up a long haired
white bearded man picking funny mushrooms on the watchung hillsides. He had
run out of gas and I invited him to herbal tea at my garage apt (1890's
carriage house)
The conversation was broad and varied I told him I was studying art and
making posters; he asked me who I liked I told him Jasper Johns; Oh he is a
friend of mine "
then rattled off some other friends names which I had seen only at the
Whitney or MoMa then I became curious about  who this man was ;
John Cage; he replied; at the time it didn't register; if it wasn't
mainstream Hendrix or Janus Joplin; I wouldn't know until I mentioned it to
my girl friend who bashed me over the head (therapy again) with her pocketbook

there is the time I sat at the $1000 plate Spirit of the City dinner with
Christy Brinkly and Billy Joel talked about our work at the Cathedral for 20
mins and told baudy stonemason jokes while admiring Christys ample cleavage
until later the security guard told me who I was sitting next to

The following year at the same dinner I sat next to an elegant Black man in
full tux and we both talked story about Harlem and morningside heights
tipping the good Medoc when he excused himself "to do His thing"
next thing I know he is on stage singing one of the most beautiful renditions
of "stormy weather".....They then introduced the singers name ....Cab
Calloway
I understand he too has passed
