Gilbert Hicks of Hicksville, no relation to Roland, wanting to reline our low
efficiency fuel oil furnace masonry chimney w/ fancy stainless lining for
$1,000, says that CO is seeping through between flue tiles and rotting out
the masonry. I understand if he is talking about water and freeze thaw and
potential reduction in draft... like I really care all that much about the
nth degree of efficiency of draft on a 30+ yr old petrofuel burner in a house
that leaks hot/cold air on a regular basis -- I'm not allowed to shut certain
windows, regardless, but I never heard of CO rotting masonry. I thought it
only makes us progressively stupid or dead. Am I missing something?
