As the only current owner of a Morgan (to my knowledge) on BP, I appreciate
the enthusiasm shown for these funny little cars by so many of you. If
anyone else on BP has one, I would like to know.

We Morgan owners also appreciate fellow-travelers with vehicles of a
similar spirit, or non-owners who want to hang with us. One of our recent
club presidents has been a member for 10 years, has served 4 years as
president, but has never owned a Morgan. This gives him a lot more time to
devote to club business, and he was one of our more dedicated officers.
Personally, being a non-owning club member for 10 years would have been
intolerable to me--I am always interested in participating rather than
observing, which is also an aspect of my current preservation-related
occupation that I don't like either.

A few years ago there was a guy who owned an Allard K2 and a Lotus 6 who
liked to attend our activities because we were at least able to relate to
his vehicles somewhat, and he thought we were crazy enough to be worth his
time. He was a lobbyist for the American Naturist Society, saying that
having spent many years lobbying for groups who were not fun, he now only
liked lobbying for fun groups, and being a lobbyist for naked people was
fun.

People often ask me if the Morgan is a kit car, and I reply that it's what
the kit cars wish they could be. Certainly it is, as the last survivor of
its kind, in some respect their inspiration, although none of them copy it
directly (one who tried found out that the Morgan design is copyrighted and
they have very good lawyers). Some of the replicars and kits cars are quite
good, although for the price of the better ones you can have a real Morgan,
which is one of the great values in the collector-car market. In any case,
I appreciate all interesting cars, and the attitude which prefers something
really different to all the mass-produced tinware that you can't even tell
apart. They may be good appliances, but they're boring cars.

A few years ago our DC Morgan club was visited by some Morgan guys from BC.
They had recently completed an annual coast-to-coast vintage car rally in
Canada. They said there's a small Morgan population in BC and they
sometimes meet up with the Morgan people from Washington State. One of the
most highly regarded Morgan people from the East Coast, Bob Couch, moved to
WA a couple of years ago.

I should really take the time to post some Morgan pics on PigHabit. Or I
will send them direct to interested parties. Including the famous Topless
Morgan photo taken on Preservation Sourcebook Road Trip 98.
