I agree with Mike E that the lawyers waiting in the wings to pounce are being paid for by the 527s but eventually the taxpayers will have to pay to defend their municipalities against the suits that are brought.

Actually, the campaigns have been flush with cash, as have the 527's, and they
have been hiring the attorneys. If nothing else good comes out of this
election cycle, there is at least the prospect that the way campaigns are
funded can change forever. When you can raise $200 million on the internet $50
at a time from ordinary people, the need to cave to special interests is a lot
less obvious.

As for lawyers, everyone hates them until they need one. But to pile on, the
following was used as an opening remark/ice-breaker by a board member of a
well-respected restoration industry organization at a recent annual meeting:

Q: "What happens when you rub a lawyer's head?"
A: "He gets taller".
