I know a Chicago architect who has a dining-room table in onyx.
As I recall, it's made of four slabs butted side by side.
Each slab may be 15 by 30 or something like that.

They were salvaged from a mansion in demolition.
That building had onyx wainscoting.  Of course
this was quite a while ago. 

I believe it's like rosewood, or premium mahogany, etc.
All the best stuff is gone now.  Need to give the planet
a few million years' rest so she can replenish herself.
