I won't pretend they are highly scientific concepts, just some interesting things to consider or look into further.

Ralph might like this one:

"The drying potential of an assembly decreases with the level of insulation and increases with the rate of air flow. As such, energy conservation has the potential to destroy more buildings than architects."

Bruce,
Thanks, I will check out these articles.

I agree--closed cell won't breathe so it serves as a moisture barrier. Make
sure you know where your dew point will be (where in the wall condensation
will occur) to avoid letting moisture come in contact with wood or concrete.

Some interesting thoughts on moisture issues in the north and south (while
checking out a soy-bean-oil-based spray foam insulation product yesterday):

http://www.buildingscience.com/topten/north.htm
http://www.buildingscience.com/topten/south.htm

Control of moisture, now that we "up here in the north" (but not as far
north as cp or some others) want tight buildings with lots of insulation (to
save energy) and higher humidity levels (meaning 40-60%) for health reasons,
is becoming a serious issue. Same for people "down south" if they want air
conditioning.

Dealing with the moisture scene up (somewhat) north,

Bruce Marcham

Sorry I don't know. However, being a "closed cell" type might be an
indicator.

I am looking at Corbond, which is a closed cell urethane. I cannot find any
information on moisture issues with the closed cell. You?
Best,
Leland

They tend to inhibit vapor transmission so depending how and where used can
be a problem.

Hello all,

Anyone have thoughts on pros and cons of polyeurathane foams, in particular
any experience with moisture related issues (rotting)?

Best,

Leland
