The troopers are trying to capture Love, and the kids are right to snatch it
up out of the lovers' lanes and abscond with it, as long as they put it back
in the lanes when the coast is clear.

I went to high school on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River, and the
lovers' lanes of choice were the overlooks along the rim of the Palisades.
The kids called this "going to watch the submarine races."
