Face mix is when you mix a different composition for
the final layer of a patch, so as to match the
adjoining stones.

Comes from precast concrete terminology, where they
often pour a thin layer of 'face mix' into the mould,
followed by the back-up concrete which doesn't contain
the expensive colour-selected aggregates or the like.

The use of face mixes can cause problems due to subtle
differences in properties leading to different
behaviours on the building, not to mention questions
of adhesion and bonding.

Cheers

PS sorry for the delayed response, haven't been here
for a while ... nearly 300 unread messages from the
Pinheads - thank goodness there is something worth
watching on the TV whilst I go through deleting the
crap (sorry, digesting the pearls of wisdom).
