I heard Byard talk about his book when it first appeared and was 
honestly impressed so asked if I could get a copy to review for the APT 
Bulletin. I then read it and got myself in an instant quandry because I 
found it to be the most amazing academic obfuscation of horseshit that I 
had ever read. Theory I suppose can be that way. Keep in mind I 
entertain myself by reading the writings of certified mad people. 
Whatever Byard said in person made a whole lot more sense than what he 
got wrote down. I handled my predicament the best way I knew how which 
was to do nothing. What bothered me was that I had asked for the book, 
got it for free, and could not bring myself to review it with favor... 
unless I did review it and forgot that part.

I am reminded of when Kathy did line editing and I would pre-read the 
texts... like 700 pages of academic gook, mostly sociology, and 
concluded in one such heavy tome that the author had only used one 
sentence that actually made a sensible statement. Enough of that and I 
was begging to do brickwork on a line.
