Have you tried coating it with wood consolidant.

There must be a way to lengthen the life of (hollowed out) Halloween
pumpkins.  I've tried spraying olive oil on the interior (to slow the drying
out and shrinking) but that didn't work.

Any ideas?    Sign me,  Pumpkin-L
