I remember from high-school health education class
that the word was "Gardeeloo," from French "Gardez l'eau,"
or "Look out for the water!" Not related to the English
word "loo" which comes from French "lieu" meaning "place"
as in "I have to go to the place for a moment."

Have some of you seen the very funny little books
"The loos of London" and " ... of Paris"?

For instance,
"The loos of Notre-Dame.
The loos of Notre-Dame are located
behind the church of the same name."
