When recovering form cardiac intensive care in Poland I was w/ my friend's
father in his livingroom, whose English is ship captain's English. He was
doing his best to get me back on my feet from a rather down place and a
rather worn out body. For entertainment that evening he sat with me and
interpreted the Polish on a Nova type American television program on
Australia which had a stream of english murmuring in the background. I had
the best Polish, of which I understood very little, and both extremes of
English in one sitting.
