I'll take the authentic original Motel 6 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. I
stayed there in 1999 and met the guy who started Motel 6 (and 1 through
5) with his five brothers. I'll be back through Aberdeen again this
September, on my way to Ferderick, South Dakota, just north of Aberdeen
where Joy Sears and I will be teaching wood window preservation at the
historic Savo Hall out on the tall grass prairie lands of Brown County.
This time I hope to be staying with friends at a nearby farmstead, since
farmsteads are about all that is nearby, unless you count the nearby
shelterbelt of locust and cottonwoods. Out in that country it's
important to count what is nearby because practically everything is
quite a ways off in the distance.
