Don't know about the Dolomites, but will get you some info on the Carrara quarries next fortnight ... I will be in Carrara for the Marble Fair (26-30 May) and will check out the options through the IMM (industry organisation which runs the fair). There are also tourist type tours.

You can also walk or ride up the hills (if you are very athletic) and basically just stick your nose in to see them - many of them are just on the side of the road. You could also drive up!

Cheers

Who can tell me about how to visit the Carrara quarries in Italy? Fun?
Possible? Forget it?

And, as long as I'm bothering everyone with my personal problems, has anyone
gone hiking in the Dolomites? I'm having trouble planning a trip there next
summer - I need especially first hand information on whether Castelrotto
would be a nice town to base in, or whether it combines the worst elements of
Aspen, Miami Beach and Ken Follett.
