I agree with Dan. It is like post-tensioning, only in this case it would
be post-detensioning.
If the wood is bent and holds the kinetic energy of wanting to unbend
then it is like a bow.
If you want tension then don't steam, if you don't want tension in the
member then steam.
I also agree with Dan that I'd rather not get slapped in the face.
I've steamed rocks before... but it is difficult to get them into the
PVC pipe.
Best to soak them in a stream all day then throw them on a bonfire.
Do not stand close.
