David started out in a progressive school in the Village where parents
were encouraged to participate. I attended one parent meeting where
another parent complained that there was too much overcrowding in the
classrooms and too much chaos. My response was that was exactly what I
hoped would occur as the more chaos there was the more adept David would
be at learning to deal w/ it. You find the tools that you need to do the
job at hand... and knowledge is tools, either physical or mental models.
It is human nature to find pattern in chaos -- fer christ's sake that is
what an IQ test is about - ain't it? The other 'liberal' parent looked
like they wanted to lynch me.

Attitudes towards education. Work occurs in a complex environment and we
do not always know what direction the decision tree will go in, whereas
it seems to me a whole lot of the formal education process is to map out
the tree first and then maybe possibly take action. When faced with a
complex process what seems important is the confidence and will to make
a whole lot of small decisions.

It is all good.
