As my esteemed colleague Twybil (well, one of those guys, anyway) pointed out
and as you noted, the salt don't do the granite no good at all.  And even if
your stupid client can't be convinced that it's not harmful to their granite
pavers, direct their consideration to what the chlorides that leach through
the joints in the granite are doing to the setting bed, or slab, or whatever
(other than permafrost) is under the granite.
