I am not familiar with the windows, are they wood or metal? This would not
be "too" unusual for metal windows.

Examined today Stanford White's 1907 Colony Club, at Madison and 30th, a
very sophisticated work of design.   One element I had never seen before:
the muntins of the double-hung windows are, instead of routed on one side to
serve as a "bed" for the glass, are cut flat straight through.  The glass is
held in place by separate trim >>>on each side<<< of the glass, instead of
the more frequent design of applied putty on one side and the routed bed on
the other.
