Hi, I'm the Listmaster on Maelstrom.stjohns.edu.

My apologies for posting a Maelstrom-specific message to your list
but, given the imminent shutdown of this server, I'm experimentally
targeting a small number of what appear to be active lists in an
attempt to determine if we have significant numbers of communities
on the system that haven't been alerted to the shutdown by my earlier
postings to SJUOWNER and ALL-REQUEST.

On Oct 12th, 2005, the University announced:

----------------------

Disconnect of Maelstrom service:

The University is no longer in a position to support the Maelstrom
List Service. As of February 1, 2006, St. John's will discontinue
the service.

List owners should make arrangements to migrate to another service
prior to the disconnect date.

----------------------

With only two weeks remaining until system shutdown I'd like to
mention that one of the most distinctive "List owner ... arrangements"
has been ICORS, a University unaffiliated group of owners who have
established a non-profit alternative to Maelstrom. Last week over 200
of the (then) 400+ lists remaining on Maelstrom were successfully
migrated to a modern, LSoft-based server. A second smaller migration
is scheduled for the 25th, however application and processing should
be completed several days before then. See the "Listowner Service
Survey" at: htp://www.icors.com

Thanks for the time and attention. -Kary
