Nope, that is folk etymology.  Back in those days, few people could even
read, let alone come up with acronyms.  The word originated via earlier
languages like most words, and is the cousin of (shares ancestors with)
other aggressive words like "pugilist".

As to "frigging", my understanding of the meaning is that it is something
a woman can do by herself.  There are (many) other words to refer to the
male version of the same solitary act.

I suppose secondarily it's a kind of euphemism for the word etymologized
above.
