"Experts in acoustics have debunked one of the more esoteric myths of the
modern age ? that a duck's quack is the only sound that does not produce an
echo," reports The Independent.

The paper details the exploits of Daisy the duck and Professor Trevor Cox
of Salford University, who have come together to prove "the quack of a duck
does obey the laws of physics and can, like any other sound, produce and
echo when it bounces off a solid surface." The unlikely pair proved this
when Professor Cox recorded Daisy in a special echo-proof chamber and
compared these quacks to another set taken in a reverberation chamber.

The Professor noted the reason for the myth might be that ducks seldom
congregate near echoey areas like cliffs, suggesting to find such an echo,
"You'd have to find a mountain duck." Further demonstrations of the same
pure logic and sound reasoning that characterised the noble endeavour from
the start.
