Christopher,

I couldn't get your post of 9/24 out of my mind, and thrilled to hear of the
recent wonderful developments. I understand about not "knowing what 'it'
was that happened". In 1976, I was working on an exhibit to go to
Philadelphia for the Bicentennial, and had gone about 40 hours without
sleep. I was driving around trying to clear my mind, when I drifted off.
I woke up in the emergency room as they were sewing my head back together.
I recovered quickly from the two broken knees, left arm, and collar bone.
(They didn't find out until years later that I had also broken my neck). My
last conscious memory before the emergency room, was marvelling at how
beautifully the colors of the sunset played off the concrete cylinders of a
grain elevator. I'm grateful that was the last thing I remembered, and for
(almost) every day of life since then . . .

Don't listen to anything that mean step-uncle Ralph says about dogs. Daisy
and Clipper (six-year old, inseparable black Lab siblings adopted from the
pound last January) would melt even his Grinch-ish heart.

Best,

Lisa

remembers present phone numbers, old phone numbers, types of fajita at
McDonalds. Is crying every 20 minutes or so - "Why did it have to happen?"
without, quite yet, knowing what "it" was that happened. We haven't really
told her, waiting for her to wake up, perhaps recall spontaneously.
Discharge possible Sunday or Monday
