I have been reading a Writers Guide to Everyday Life In Colonial Times, by Dale Taylor. In the chapter on architecture he even gives floor plans. When discussing wall construction, he mentions riven siding and sawn weatherboard and then, "At the extreme was rustication (fashioning wood to look like dressed stone), a technique George Washington used on the facade of MT. Vernon."

Also he mentioned the use of privies. I had read somewhere else that outhouses were not used in that period, and wondered what the difference is. Is anyone privy to that information?
