Ah, the #6 train. I have such fond memories of it, taking it to the 28th St. station everyday to work.

I especially remember the day a capacitor blew up on the track just as I was leaving the train to switch to the M line, and thinking at first it was gun fire. So did a lot of other people and we all started running up the stairs.

As I crossed over the platform and saw some really ugly brown smoke rising up from the other side, I ran faster. Another woman and I were at the front of the crowd, yelling at people to go back because something big was happening. I'm sure other's were yelling too, but I don't remember. Couldn't wait to get home, which I did safely about 45 minutes later.

I was very fortunate - it turned out people were stuck down in the tunnel breathing that crap (loaded with PCBs - is that the right acronym?) for as long as 4 hours. That's about the time I decided I'd had enough of my love/hate relationship with the city and had to get the hell out of Dodge.

- Pam

whatever you do don't use the word wythe in a proposal...
Used it w/ coaching from Ralph, Eric, Derek & Diane last year and they gave the job to someone else who wasn't "making such a big deal out of it"

That's the job that closed down the 4,5 & 6 trains when the wll partially collapsed...
