For those of us who have been watching and waiting for the expected news
of Christopher Gray's elevation to the ranks of MacArthur Fellows, there
is now a date.

The MacArthur Foundation's web site (as a "Special Announcement" in bold
type) states that the blessed event is "projected to take place" on
September 25.

No explanation has been offered for the three month delay.

Per the MacFound.org web site: "Each fellowship comes with a stipend of
$500,000 to the recipient, paid out in equal quarterly installments over
five years. All Fellows are invited, but not required, to attend periodic
informal gatherings to meet one another and exchange ideas."

The whole concept is to give no-strings-attached money to interesting
people, to enable them to do interesting things.

Condolences in advance to all the interesting folks on B-P who don't win
a Fellowship on the 25th.  There's always 2003!
