Ken and John-

That kinda what I thought... but I like to have a firm grip on my 'scary
results' stories before I shoot my mouth off. At the very least, I like to be
able to give a good "I told you so" after I get proven right. Doesn't help
much by then, but usually increases my credability. Certainly helped when one
of our 18th century brick farmhouses got painted a couple of years ago-- I
was really worried that the paint would do it's vapor barrier thing and crack
the brick, but it was such a crappy paint job that the paint is failing not
the brick.

I'll talk to the church people, and make a pitch for improved work on future
repairs. I doubt they will listen, but at least when the walls come tumbling
down, maybe they'll come ask before repointing the church.
