Same thing happened at Central Synagogue in the late 1990's here in NYC. Huge fire in immensely ornate and beautiful Synagogue with wood timber trusses. Supposedly also started when the roofing contractor was finishing up working on flashings. No smoke watch and the thing really burned fast and hot! It is now very back to being very beautiful with many upgrades. A few of the roof trusses were saved and we matched the new ones to the old. Take a look at our website for photos.

The fire started with a soldering iron? There's something not being talked
about here.
I've done a lot of soldering in my day & I don't see how the iron started
the fire. Maybe if they were using a blow torch.
