The Peoples Gas Building, a Burnham pile at 122 S. Michigan in Chicago

is in the Michigan Avenue Streetwall landmark district,
and is also subject to a preservation easement held by Landmarks Illinois.

They want to do wholesale replacement of windows. The city
landmarks division was OK with vinyl replacement, but Landmarks Illinois
did not accept that, and the owners seem to be amenable to doing
a preservation-style repair, at least on the outside facades
(there is a light court).

This is on the order of a thousand windows, and aside from
the expert & rather expensive lady in Kankakee, nobody seems
to know who could take on this work.

I thought maybe such contractors could be found through this list.
In my (academic) mind, there might be places here for several parties --
a general, and specialists with preservation mentality & experience to do
various parts of the hands-on work.

Anyone interested in exploring this opportunity
should contact Suzanne Germann at Landmarks Illinois

This would be a cool place to work. Right across the boulevard
from Grant Park, the Art Institute, etc.

Good luck!
