TWinbrook 4-4874, on the east side of Bay City, Michigan. Bay City had
MUrdock numbers for the west side of town. Even today, the TW converts
to the prevalent 89 of most local numbers.

Summer of 1963 or 4 I had a job in my dad's auto parts store, relieving
the regular telephone operator on our old-fashioned switchboard. We had
5 trunk lines with cords to plug into 30 extensions. Conference calls
were plugged across the open trunk line with the switch left open. Just
like the movies! I thought it was so cool, and loved the power of being
able to "unplug" anyone who was particularly nasty. I wish I had a photo
of that setup, as it's only in my memory...truly a classic.
