Hi all,
I have not been subscribed to this list for some time, so I don't know if this has been brought up before, but here we go..
Some time ago I heared about a Chinese company creating handheld radio's called Wouxun. I also heared that they offered a voice guide feature so I decided to order one dual band radio.
I got the Wouxun KG-UVD1P from:
www.409shop.com
And for that price, you get alot of features that the other handheld radio's have.
But anyway, here are my observations regarding the voice guide feature:
When you power the radio on it will tell you if you are in frequency or in memory channel mode.
When entering the menu, the radio will say:
Function, select. You can then use the VFO or numpad to enter the feature you would like to change, like squelch level, power, CTCS and so on.
However, not all menu items are spoken and if you use the VFO to scroll the menu it will not say anything and it will not give any feedback when changing a setting except when pressing menu to confirm your selection.
The radio will tell you if you start/stop scanning or if the keypad is locked or unlocked.
It should also feature a low battery voice prompt, but I haven't tried it yet.
It cannot read back the frequency. I have already contacted wouxun regarding this and they were very interested in hearing my comments and sudgestions.
I have already sent them an email with sudgestions what they could do to make their radio's accessible and that we would really apreciate it since the other manufacture's don't seem to be willing to do this fully.
I think that this is great. Please, let me know if you awnt to know more and if you want the user's manual. I have got it in Word-format since the manual that can be found on their webpage is an imaged PDF and is not accessible.
I think that this is important that we show them that we are interested so that they really make the adjustments.

Christian SM0UWV
