Hi John;

The bottom side of the radio is a heat sink.

You can reverse the face so the you can have the heat sink facing up.

Mine never get hot.

  I guess it's setup to be a link radio out of the box, but I wonder if it can 
  stand up to the use of being a simplex link radio. Everyone I know around 
  here with a simplex link, that gets heavily used or connects to conferences 
  frequently, burns up ham gear at a rate of once a year. I came close in 6 
  months but really lost interest after my first week so I pulled mine down, 
  probably for ever. 1 year later, I have nice Motorola radios which would 
  work perfect but still no interesting in putting my link up. We'll have to 
  see how that radio stands up to it, if it does. I'm guessing some one will 
  try it. I'd like one but to replace my TMG707A and it will be a while. I 
  want to replace HF first and that's looking like it's a ways down the road.
