Hi Mike,
         I took and passed my extra about a year ago by using the tests on
QRZ.com.  I started by getting 22 right out of the 50.  I took 2 or 3 tests
every day and checked my answers.  My score gradually incresed until I
could get all 50 right most of the time.  After about 6 weeks I took the
real test and got 45 correct.  It worked really well.  I also read thetapes
by "Gorden" as background but the test taking, like your doing, did the trick.
