Regarding the LDG auto tuners...

Fellows, I have two of them, and I have no trouble using them. No, they
don't talk like a TS-590 transceiver, but if one follows the instructions
and uses one's ears, they are very easy to use. The only connections I have
to my LDG AT1000PROII tuners are the AC power cord, RF power in from either
my transceiver, the TS-590, or from my amplifier, and then, the output RF to
my antenna. In the auto tune mode, it automatically tunes for low SWR as I
change bands and frequencies. With the TS-590, I can place it in the tune
mode and also monitor the SWR. Sometimes the LDG AT1000PROII doesn't stop at
the absolute minimum SWR. In which case, I can manually bump the inductance
and/or the capacitance up and down buttons to find the lowest possible SWR.
For instance, I log onto a net each day on 75 meters, and the tuner seems to
always stop with the SWR as shown by my TS-590 at 1.5 to 1. However, I can
bump the inductance up button a couple of times, and I can get the SWR down
to 1 to 1. The Kenwood's SWR meter isn't real precise; that is, it doesn't
speak every .1 of a SWR measurement. What we hear by the speech is something
like every .5, and it seems to round up or down to the nearest .5 of a SWR
measurement.

The only thing I have had a little challenge with when using the LDG auto
tuner is if I accidentally get out of the auto tune mode. Then, I have to
remember to press the function key and then the down arrow capacitance
button, and that puts me back into the auto tune mode again. Sometimes I
have to hit this combination a couple of times to get it back into the auto
tune mode because I don't hold the down arrow capacitance button down quite
long enough.

Now, having said what I just did, I'll readily admit that I do not like the
people running LDG. I have not had a good customer relationship with them,
and in at least one situation, I found the top people just plain rude and
totally uncooperative. The only reason I purchased a second AT1000PROII
tuner is that I got a very good deal on it from a dealer.

Subject: LDG auto tuner

Junior, I am very curious about that. I got one of those last summer when I
got an ALS-600 amp and found it very blind unfriendly. I couldn't call LDG
to ask anyone about it, only email them and their response was that no, that
tuner is not accessible by blind people. I immediately returned it to HRO
and got a full refund.
Was nervous about that because they usually charge a hefty restocking fee
which I didn't feel I should pay. I didn't have too. However, I may have
been too hasty in not trying it further. Since then I have done without a
tuner just using my amp where I have a decent match. I since found out
about the MFJ 994b auto tuner which has SWR Audio feedback, but have not
ordered one at this time. So, let me know your findings. I think the MFJ
994 is considerably less expensive than the LDG tuner. Good luck, Jim

Subject: new auto tuner ordered

I have ordered my new LDG AT600PRO II aAuto tuner.
I will most likely get it tomorrow.
Then I will hook up my ALS500.
Then I can see how it works on the 20 meter net.
