Obviously things are different in the US.
Here in the UK I have a 6-port mains outlet extension which has two sockets
that remain live for, say, a recorder of some sort, and four which can be
turned off remotely.
What is brilliant about it is that the device can be activated by the remote
control of your choice, in my instance the HI FI remote control, having
programmed it in conjunction with the multi socket's receiver.
I can't recall where it came from, but saves quite a lot of juice!
