I've noticed that some talking book producers, like APH and Talking Book
Publishing (Or is it publishers), hav higher quality readers than a producer
who is less known. I'll bet it's more expensive to use APH or Talking Book
Publishing to record a book. I also remember reading somewhere NLS gets
bids from various producers and they give each producer a certain amount of
books to record. If the less-known producers use poorer narrators but offer
the lowest bids and receive the most contracts, then we listeners suffer the
consequences of poor quality.
