I think the original question was how to convert Audible to mp3?  Goldwave
will convert an 8 hour Audible book to mp3 in about 15 minutes (on my pc).
Then it will split the mp3 into smaller parts by size or by time.  Goldwave
v5.09 allows you 150 commands per session when used unregistered.  This is
more than enough to convert Audible books.  Works great and is free.

Total recorder will work, but an 8 hour book will take 8 hours.  TR is great
for recording live audio streams though and is (was) only $12 when I bought
it.
