Thank you Alan and Steve and all.  The audio recording that I had didn't
give the proper size of the smaller cushion that goes on the bottom of the
VGS1.  The description that you all provided was just what I needed.  Thank
you,

Subject: Installing the voice chip in the 590

Following is the instructions that my friend Steve, N9HE, gave me.  He just
installed the chip/board in his 590.  I hope this helps:

 

Remove the bottom cover then remove the shield cover. There are 5 rubber
cushions in the VGS-1 package.  Use the 2 rubber cushions sized 20x30x2mm
and 21x21x2.5mm.  Attach the larger pad on top of the VGS-1 and the smaller
pad on the bottom of the VGS-1.  The remaining cushions are not used.  Plug
in the VGS-1 and replace the shield cover then replace bottom cover.
