If you're transmitting, it's normal for the radio to get warm.  If 
you're just monitoring and not transmitting, it might still get a 
little warm, but not nearly as warm as it does when you 
transmit.  Remember that you are running the radio at a higher 
voltage than that of the battery, and the voltage difference will 
show up as heat.  As long as your supply voltage doesn't exceed 13.6, 
I wouldn't worry.
