Mike, most of what I was going to suggest has been covered by Steve and others.

The grid block or solid state output for the MFJ keyboard keyers is set 
by a jumper that is inside the keyer. So, unless you had the keyer set 
to handle an older tube rig, that should not be the issue.

Like Steve, I was going to suggest that you be sure you are using the 
1/8 inch mono plug jack.

If you are, and if your keyer was not set for the grid block mode by 
the internal jumper, then I don't know what to tell you, other than 
mine is working fine with my 590S.
